9 Ways to Save Your Sanity During Flight Delays
TO SAVE YOUR SANITY DURING FLIGHT DELAYS
We hope you don't get delayed during your travels this summer - but if you do, we hope these tips (and your SleepPhones® headphones!) make a delay more bearable.
- Gather your information. It's a huge help to have everything close at hand when you're trying to sort out a delay. So print out all reservations - or use an app like TripIt.
- Sign up for flight status notifications. Most airlines now offer to text you in the event of a delay. So sign up for notifications or try the FlightView app. Being in the know early helps your rebooking efforts.
- Put your airline's number in your phone. Most people will rush to the service counter - but you can often get faster (and better) service by calling the airline directly.
- Pack a lot of snacks and entertainment. You can never go wrong loading up on easy, nonperishable snacks like granola bars, nuts, and dried fruit. When it comes to entertainment, consider packing books and games that don't need electricity - outlets can get crowded during delays.
- Keep a well-stashed carry-on. It's tempting to check everything and just take the bare minimum - but you'll regret not having food, entertainment, toiletries, a change of clothes, and medications on hand in the event of an extended delay.
- Know your rights. Google "contract of carriage" and your airline's name to learn just what your airline offers when there's a delay or cancellation.
- Expect something to go wrong. Yes, it's a little defeatist, but not expecting everything to go as planned will make it easier to go with the flow.
- Consider springing for a loung pass. If you're not flying business class or have a credit card that grants you access to an airport lounge, consider buying a day pass. A lounge will have snacks, nice rest spaces, and a shower so you can freshen up.
- Create a soothing playlist before your trip. Calming music, nature sounds, and guided meditations are all great tracks to have on hand when stress skyrockets. (And soft and comfortable SleepPhones® headphones make your listening experience even better!)
